Former California Teacher Who Slit His Throat Sentenced in Sexual Assault Case

A former teacher who slit his own throat inside a Santa Ana courtroom last year after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager has been sentenced to 46 years to life in prison.

57-year-old Jeffrey Jones was found guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and a single count of continuous sexual abuse. Jones will have to register as a sex offender. After his conviction in 2016, Jones pulled a razor blade from his pocked and slit his own throat. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Jones has been accused of frequently sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl while he taught English at a private school.
