Law Enforcement
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is the chief law enforcement agency in the County. The department is comprised of both sworn officers and civilian support staff. They provide law enforcement and jails for San Diego County. They also provide specialized regional services to all of the county, whether they are needed in incorporated cities within the county or in the unincorporated areas not serviced by a city law enforcement agency.
San Diego County Sheriff Department
The Sheriff, who is elected by the citizens of
San Diego County, is the C E O of the department.
He manages the large multi-million dollar operation.
He manages seven major jails as well as seven major stations, four patrol substations, the crime laboratory and a number of support operations to provide law enforcement for the County of San Diego.

The San Diego Police Department is committed to fighting crime by working together, within the Department, in a partnership with local communities, government agencies, and individuals.

San Diego County District Attorney
The San Diego County District Attorney represents the People of the State of California. Simply put, the D. A. has the responsibility and authority to investigate and prosecute all crimes committed within San Diego County that are in violation of state laws and county ordinances in the criminle trial courts.
Public Defenders Office
The San Diego County Public Defender is to protect and guard the citizens of San Diego County from corrupt and inefficient governmental programs of the County, Cities and Special Districts, by investigating these agencies and reporting findings and recommendations.
County Jails
When individuals are arrested, they are usually taken to a local police station where they may be interviewed, and where necessary reports and forms are prepared. Male inmates are booked at either the San Diego Central Jail in Downtown San Diego or the Vista Detention Facility. Female inmates come into the jail system through either the Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee or the Vista Detention Facility.
CSI San Diego Region
The San Diego Sheriff's Crime Laboratory provides forensic science services to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies for every city other than the City of San Diego in San Diego County.
Apon request the Crime Scene Investigation team responds to homicides and other serious crimes throughout the county and beyond.

Crime Scene Investigators
The San Diego Police Department has a laboratory which conducts analysis on evidence collected from a crime scene. Trained in photography, latent print development, evidence collection, and crime scene reconstruction the laboratory staff work the major crime scene investigations.
The physical evidence is analyzed for the purpose of identification or comparison of substances. Almost any object may become valuable evidence for the county prosecuting attorney or the defense attorney.
